Don knows first hand the power of getting an education and of learning from others who blazed the trail before him.
Like many other real estate investors, Don became interested in real estate investing from that middle-of-the-night infomercial you’ve probably seen. You know – the one that says you can make money in real estate with no money down.
In fact he ordered it, and promptly put it on the shelf for 8 years! When cleaning the garage out one day, he came across that old set of tapes. He pulled them out of the box, watched the entire set, and went out to find his first ‘no cash, no credit’ deal.
As luck would have it, the first deal he came across was actually a house being sold by another very experienced real estate investor – one who spent 3 hours with him on the front lawn of that house, talking about rental property, cash flow, lease options, short sales, and ‘subject to’ investing.
And, to this day, Don says this investor, Lynn, gave him the best advice he has gotten in his investing career -
First – Join your local Real Estate Investors Association and
Second – Get educated!
One of Don’s favorite quotes is, “If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.” (Some really smart guy from Harvard said it first.) In the real estate investing business, ignorance can cost you a LOT of money. And a few simple tips can make - or save – you thousands and thousands of dollars. LITERALLY.
While Don firmly believes that this is the most exciting profession he can imagine — where you can work from home and work part-time and still create massive amounts of wealth — he knows first hand that the first thing you need to do is get educated.
So – Go join your local REIA (we have a listing for you here on our site), talk to other real estate investors, figure out what areas interest you, and invest in an education that will benefit you for the rest of your life.
